active in the third quarter. We still think certain real estate sectors present a good investment opportunity as well as diversification from the stock market. Specifically, we continue to favor commercial opportunities that generate ongoing cash flow. Landsmith also sold its first finished residential lots. Prices have been steadily increasing as builders reenter the market. Landsmith expects more bulk sales this quarter; however, we are cautiously optimistic as it is yet to be determined how the recent interest rate rise will affect home buyers and home prices.


Commodities/Managed Futures - Not much has changed from last quarter, except the one bright spot has been energy, specifically oil which is at recent highs. Although, a positive for investors in energy, consumers will not enjoy the 20+ cent rise in gas prices coming. Commodities and Managed Futures continue to be the biggest drag on clients’

portfolios. Another twist to this asset class is the increased stimulus plans from other countries and its effects on the U.S. dollar. This could be a continued headwind for U.S. dollar based commodities. However, we continue to use these asset classes to mitigate the risks of increased inflation expectations and a weakening dollar while the Federal Reserve continues printing money at historic rates.

4th of July Barbeque
